What and Who is the 9th Legislative District?

The 9th Legislative District is the geographically the second largest Legislative District in Washington State (The 7th Legislative District is larger). It includes all of Asotin, Adams, Garfield and Whitman Counties, the northwest portion of Franklin County and the southern portion of Spokane County. It is roughly the size of the state of Connecticut.

There are a number of major communities in the 9th Legislative District. Cheney and Medical Lake are in Spokane County, Colfax and Pullman are in Whitman County, Clarkston and Asotin are in Asotin County, Othello and Ritzville are in Adams County, Connell is in Franklin County and Pomeroy is in Garfield County.

The 9th Legislative District is home to two State Universities. Washington State University is located in Pullman and Eastern Washington University is located in Cheney.

Legislative District Caucus

A notice from our chair regarding the Legislative District Caucus:

The 9th LD caucuses will be held in conjunction with the county convention April 19. Each of the 6 counties will have their separate conventions and Spokane & Franklin counties will breakout the 9th LD delegates and elect their portion of delegates to the perspective Congressional District and State Convention for election to the national Convention.The delegates will be contacted through the county they preside in for the actual date and location of their county convention. Also, platform and resolution issues will be addressed at that time.The 9th LD has always done their caucus in this manner due to the geographical size of the area.

Next Meeting

The next meeting of the 9th Legislative District Democrats will be on April 5th, 2008 in Othello, WA. Time and location are to be determined.
